How to Calculate GPA
GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the formula:
GPA = Total Grade Points / Total Credit Hours
Step-by-step calculation:
- For each course, multiply grade points by credit hours
- Sum all grade points from all courses
- Sum all credit hours
- Divide total points by total credits
Example (4.0 scale):
- Math: 3 credits × A (4.0) = 12.0 points
- English: 3 credits × B (3.0) = 9.0 points
- Science: 4 credits × A- (3.7) = 14.8 points
- Total: 35.8 points ÷ 10 credits = 3.58 GPA
Note: Different institutions may use different grading scales and methods. This calculator supports 4.0, 5.0, and 10.0 scales.
